Sugarcreek Rotary News

Greetings  Rotarians,

Last week we had Kevin West speak on coaching.  He did a great job getting all of us to think outside the box.
Tomorrow - we will have Lee Shaw, who is VP of Sales for Doors, Windows and Stone at ProVia.
District Grant - We can apply again this year for a district grant.  I would like to have a board meeting soon to discuss the possibilities of helping Garaway schools again.  If anyone has other ideas, please let me know as soon as possible.
Pancake Day - Friday, April 1st from 7am - 7pm at the Belden Community Center.
If you haven't signed up yet to help at the pancake day, please contact myself or Ken Walters.
There's a lot to do and all hands to help that day will be greatly appreciated.

District Rotary Meeting
Special gifts are being prepared for the attendees at this year’s conference.
  1. Those that attend the Friday evening event at Warthers museum will receive a commemorative, hand carved Warthers pin to wear with pride.
  2. Those attending on Saturday at the Tuscarawas Valley School will receive a nicely embossed commemorative padfolio.
  3. Those that attend both days will of course receive both gifts.
Luminary Memorial Event
We have submitted luminaries for Keith, Arnie and Howard.
Well, a lot is going on these few months for the District.  This year's District 6650 conference is being held on April 29 and 30, 2016. On the evening of April 29 we plan on having a Luminary Memorial Event for all those Rotarians who are no longer with us. The District office is requesting that each club send them a list of their deceased Rotarians. They are  also respectfully requesting that Rotarians sponsor each of these past Rotarians with a $10.00 donation to help offset the cost of the luminary presentation.   Please contact me so that I can put your name down.
MEMBERSHIP ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At the District level, we are at a critical need to bring new members into our club.  I am encouraging ALL Rotarians to invite a potential Rotarian to a club meeting so that we can get more interest from our community to serve as a Rotarian.
One idea to increase our brand is to have our Interact Students both present and past at a our dinner meeting.  We would take one evening and make it a "Interact Open House" event.  We would invite the Interact students, their families and teachers involved.  John Meek, Ryan Rowe and Jennifer Burris have volunteered to work on a project.  Any one else interested in helping out, please contact John Meek.
I know we are very busy, but I also want to impress the need to increase our membership.
Let's grow our club members together.  Let's work to make Rotary better.
Our District 6650 Rotary Foundation has approved two new Global Grants for this Rotary Year:
  • Water Project in the Philippines: Many of you will remember our Group Study Exchange Team from the Philippines during District Governor Jim Russell’s year in 2010. Jim is working with Tato (Dimayuga Fortunato), and on behalf of the Rotary Club Mataasnakahoy, to provide water through the installation of a deep well submersible pump with an overhead water tank. The District has committed $10K toward this project. If you wish to donate funds, please contact me below.
  • Vietnam Microfinance Program: DG-Elect Sieglinde Warren has brought us information for a community-based microfinance program in Vy Da, Hue City, Vietnam. The island is currently undergoing a transformation to a tourist economy and the funds would provide financial and educational resources for women entrepreneurs/small business owners to provide sustainable jobs and benefit poor families in the area. The District has committed $10K toward this project. If you wish to donate funds, please contact me below.
Please work with your Foundation and International Services Chair to see if your Club can support a donation toward these projects in the range of $100-$1000.
Grant Updates:
  • Ghana Women’s Hospital Grant this November was very successful. District funds of $17.5K, local donations >$10K, and matching grants totaling nearly $50K.  Thank you Lynn Horner for your work on this project.
